About Jen

Hello and welcome to my page! I’m a qualified primary teacher (University of Cumbria, 2012) and I’ve been supporting local children through private tuition since 2014.  My story doesn’t start there, though…

In 2008 I graduated from Lancaster University with a geography degree and a passion for working with young people, having worked as an ambassador for higher education. From there, I enjoyed a number of roles working with children and young people in a youth group, after-school provision and undergraduate education. I eventually realised that I wanted to teach, and completed my Primary PGCE at the University of Cumbria in 2012. I was fortunate enough to secure a job in a charming local Church school and I took great pride in seeing my pupils make progress, both academically and personally.

School trips and swimming lessons; class novels and cricket on the field. What's not to love!? Well, I found that the level of bureaucracy in modern day teaching meant that I wasn't able to spend as much time with individual pupils as I'd have liked. After a while I decided to move on and find another way to use my skills and passion for helping others succeed.

A tutor friend of mine asked me to take on one of her pupils while she took a break. It didn't take long for me to realise that being a tutor was an exciting, challenging and rewarding role in which I could really help people. I began to teach a handful of pupils alongside a full time hospitality job, and I enjoyed leading a double life for a few years as a pub manager and tutor.

In 2016 my life (and house!) was turned upside down with the birth of my first son. After my maternity leave seemed like the perfect time to take the plunge and invest my time and effort in my business. I've recently converted my front room into a mini classroom and I now teach at home. I'm very lucky to have support from my husband, friends and family, and encouragement from the parents of my long-term pupils. I have pupils in Lancaster, Morecambe, Garstang and beyond. Most pupils see me every week, some have sessions during the holidays, and others have a block of lessons prior to a test. It's an absolute pleasure to work with children and their families, and I love my job!
